Reports

Edit the executive summary

Every report opens with an executive summary that ReportFalcon writes from the client's numbers. You can use it as it is, or rewrite it in your own words before you share the report.

What the automatic summary says

The summary is written for clients, not for SEO specialists. It has four parts:

  • Headline: one line that leads with the strongest positive result of the period.
  • Key points: the main numbers in plain sentences, such as clicks, impressions, average position, keywords on page one, sessions and key events.
  • Highlights: the clearest wins, like metrics that grew and keywords that climbed.
  • Focus for next period: dips are stated neutrally and turned into next steps, such as recovering a keyword's ranking with a content refresh.

It only uses the sources the client has connected, and it's rewritten every time the report loads, so it always matches the dates on screen.

Rewrite the summary

  1. Click Edit text. The button sits in the top corner of the summary card. An editor called Edit the executive summary opens with the current text filled in.
  2. Change the Headline. Type the one line you want clients to read first.
  3. Edit the lists. Key points, Highlights and Focus for next period take one item per line. Leave Highlights or Focus for next period empty to hide that card.
  4. Click Apply changes. The summary shows your text with an Edited tag. Click Cancel instead to close the editor without changes.

Edits stay on this page

Your edits are not saved on their own. They live on the page you're looking at until the report reloads. Anything that reloads it brings the automatic summary back: refreshing the browser, changing the dates, clicking Refresh or adding a chart note.

To go back to the automatic summary without reloading, click Restore original next to the Edited tag.

Tip

Pick your dates and add any chart notes first, then edit the summary as the last step before you share or download.

Keep your edits by sharing

  1. Edit the summary. Make your changes and click Apply changes.
  2. Click Share report. The dialog notes that the report is shared with your edited summary.
  3. Click Create link. Your edited text is frozen into that shared report, together with its numbers and charts. It never changes afterwards.

Only that shared report gets the edited text. Your own report view and the client's live link keep showing the automatic summary. A shared report keeps up to 12 key points and up to 8 highlights and 8 focus items. For more on sharing, see Share a report.

PDFs include your edits

The PDF is built from the page as you see it. If you edit the summary and then click PDF, the download contains your edited text. See Download a PDF.

Good to know

The Notes & next steps box under the summary is different: it saves automatically for each date range and stays. Use it for commentary you want to keep. See Add notes, chart notes and work completed.
